Description

The Department Supervisor is responsible for departmental operations, production, safety and policy enforcement for the assigned department. The Supervisor will maintain department work schedules and ensure proper documentation. Other responsibilities include; ensuring daily reports are being completed accurately and timely, ensure Department weekly time sheets are properly filled out and approved.

Essentials Job Functions

  • Oversee and direct the planning and execution of daily packaging activity.
  • Ensure any changes in processes and procedures are properly implemented.
  • Direct and manage the operations to improve performance through continuous improvement methodology and problem analysis to reduce unscheduled downtime, minor equipment stops, breakdowns, process upsets, material quality losses.
  • Analyze, report and complete daily production reports, gap analysis, continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Utilize data to facilitate the timely, accurate interpretation, and reporting of performance, quality, and safety data.
  • Oversee the sanitation process of equipment and facility.
  • Direct employees in proper safety procedures and identify/eliminate avoidable accidents.
  • Accomplishes manufacturing staff results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintains staff by selecting, orienting, and training employees; developing personal growth opportunities.
  • Maintains work flow by monitoring steps of the process; setting processing variables; observing control points and equipment; monitoring personnel and resources; studying methods; implementing cost reductions; developing reporting procedures and systems; facilitating corrections to malfunctions within process control points; initiating and fostering a spirit of cooperation within and between departments.
  • Maintains quality service by establishing and enforcing organization standards.
  • Maintains safe and clean work environment by educating and directing personnel on the use of all control points, equipment, and resources; maintaining compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Resolves personnel problems by analyzing data; investigating issues; identifying solutions; recommending action.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Knowledge

  1. Education

BS Degree preferred

  1. Prior Work Experience

At least 3-5 years of hands-on supervisor experience within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

  • Valid Texas Driver License
  • Qualify for TWIC Card

Skills and Abilities

  1. Physical and / or mental requirements
  • Ability to climb vertical ladders occasionally and work at heights in excess of 30 feet.
  • Strength and ability to lift and handle objects weighing 25 lbs. at least 20% of scheduled work hours.
  • Ability to work from various positions such as stooping, sitting, bending, etc.
  • Ability to be on feet (including walking) 50 – 75% of scheduled work hours every day. Infrequently 90% of scheduled work hours.
  • Hearing corrected or natural must be sufficient to work safely.
  • Must be able to speak loudly and clearly enough to be heard over plant background noise.
  • Good interpersonal communication skills. Strong communication skills, both oral and written to effectively coordinate activities with multiple departments and personnel.
  • Demonstrated engaging and effective facilitation skills.
  • Ability to give direction.
  • Speak, read and write English language proficiently. Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
  • Ability to work without direction.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and plan multiple projects.
  1. Working Conditions:
  1. Ability to work weekends to accommodate fluctuating manufacturing requirements.
  2. Respond to emergency callouts; on-call as necessary.
  3. High exposure to noise and seasonal moderate exposure to heat/cold.
