Role Summary
The Processing Supervisor is accountable for planning and scheduling activities for labor, supplies, production, and equipment to meet key performance indicators (KPIs) and achieve safety, quality, value, and cost (S, Q, V, C) objectives for the assigned shift. This role focuses on the daily operation of the processing department to ensure the highest standards of efficiency, safety, sanitation, and product quality are maintained.
What You’ll Do
- Coordinate resources and monitor execution of work area objectives.
- Assign and move personnel on production lines to optimize labor usage based on production requirements.
- Troubleshoot process equipment with the team and resolve operational issues.
- Coordinate packaging and processing supply requirements with the Warehouse Area.
- Ensure compliance with all internal and external procedures and regulations.
- Support capital and facility improvement projects.
- Educate and train employees in S, Q, V, C principles and applications.
- Plan and schedule employees to meet performance requirements; communicate daily with the Scheduling Supervisor regarding line status and upcoming production needs.
- Provide role-focused training, employee development, and performance management.
- Assist in standard operating line adjustments and troubleshooting (e.g., code dates, glue adjustments, rail adjustments, limited changeovers).
- Identify and address employment and HR issues; maintain strong working relationships with the bargaining unit.
- Assign daily labor to proper cost centers in the time and attendance system.
- Provide input to the operating budget and adhere to budget standards for staffing, overtime, and material usage.
- Track actual performance against budget and explain variances; recommend corrective actions.
- Monitor work results against department goals and analyze performance trends across shifts.
- Identify and implement continuous improvement actions and opportunities.
- Ensure execution of process, equipment, and performance improvement initiatives.
What We’re Looking For
- High school diploma required; college degree preferred.
- 2+ years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing or related environment.
- Experience with quality procedures, industrial, mechanical, process engineering, food science, or management is preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
- Technical skills to perform and troubleshoot in the area of specialty.
- Understanding and application of Lean Manufacturing principles.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and team-building skills.
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend English effectively.
- Apply basic math principles, including ratios and statistics.
- Knowledge of company software applications and automated systems.
- Care and use of required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ability to respond to emergency callouts.
- Green Belt certification knowledge preferred.
