PRODUCTION SHIFT SUPERVISOR
 

The Riviana Foods Inc. Rice Mill located in Carlisle, Arkansas is looking for a candidate to directly supervise employees in the Mill and Parboil Production area through technical knowledge of the operation processes in the production of parboiled rice, insuring product quality and integrity.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Achieve optimal results by managing in an effective and efficient manner.
  2. Supervise Mill and Parboil employees which includes:
    1. Plan, assign, and direct employees’ work assignments
    2. Complete and conduct employee appraisal performance
    3. Reward and discipline employees
    4. Instruct and train new hires or newly assigned employees ensuring knowledge of plant policies and procedures, learning and enhancement of job skills, safety and quality awareness.
    5. Enforce all company rules, policies and procedures and document any infractions through the Employee Disciplinary procedur
    6. Enforce safety rules and policies.
    7. Assist in the investigation of all accidents such as work-related injuries and property damage.
    8. Check employees’ timecard for accuracy and approve in a timely manner in eTime
  3. Accurately complete daily shift production reports and note downtime hours and reasons or other processing issues. Review operators’ documentation of process (steeping, temper, bin sheets, etc.) on a routine basis.
  4. Document and keep up-to-date on lot changes and rice movement to ensure product is stored in the proper location. Ensure Quality Control is advised on status of product location. Decide on segregation of out of specification product into separate storage when required.
  5. Direct employees’ activities in all operation processes including the employee scheduling, supervision of lot changes. Responsible for monitoring and adjustment of process parameters and processing rates to obtain highest yields within product specifications.
  6. Understand product specifications, attributes and effects from processing; review quality control data and collaborate with Quality Control personnel regularly to ensure products are within specification and necessary process adjustments are made. Communicate in a timely manner with Operators Manager when process adjustments does not bring the product back into specification.
  7. Review bin inventory positions and coordinate production, transfer and shipping activities to minimize lost time, effectively utilize storage and prevent product contamination.
  8. Identify maintenance requirements, direct employee activities to correct immediate requirements and communicate scheduled maintenance needs to the plant engineer and/or maintenance department through maintenance work order system. Follow-up on outstanding maintenance request and inspect completed maintenance tasks.
  9. Interview; provide ongoing training (process & equipment operations, quality, safety and sanitation), leadership, employee motivation, counseling and discipline of employees supervised. Prepare and maintain related records and reports.
  10. Provide supervision and document adherence to master sanitation schedule and routine cleanup in conformance with GMP’s; oversee and document application of fumigants and pesticides.
  11. Safeguard personnel and company assets and communicate with plant management.
  12. Participate in establishing or modifying operational methods and processes by recommending changes in materials, equipment and procedures through ongoing communication with employees and management.
  13. Protect company property and do not allow unauthorized personnel on company premises.
  14. Any other duties assigned by Operations Manager or Plant Manager.

Knowledge

  1. Education
  • College graduate preferred or High School graduate with equivalent related experience
  1. Prior Work Experience
  • 3 – 5 years’ experience in a food processing operation with additionally, minimum 2 years direct supervisory experience or labor laws
  1. Certificates and / or licenses
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Riviana Foods Forklift certification
  • Current Arkansas Boiler’s License
  • CPR and First Aid certification
  • Riviana Foods SCBA certification

 

Skills and Requirements

  • Computer skills are required which includes proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in teams and collaborate effectively with people in different functions
  • Ability to work in fast-paced and rapidly changing environment
  • Mechanical aptitude to understand equipment function in the parboiling and milling processes
  • Working knowledge of OSHA, GMP, FDA, and SQF regulations
  • Ability to use basic math skills
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. The employee must be able to climb to heights above 40 feet.
  • Must follow safe work practices and comply with all company, federal and state rules and regulations which apply to job, including but not limited to, emergency evacuation, electrical safety, confined space, blood borne pathogens, and lockout/tagout.

  • 12 hour shifts – coverage required for 24 hour / 7 day week operation
