Role Summary

The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the Maintenance Leadership of a group of Technicians, assigned assets in the factory, along with reviewing and defining the maintenance policies to be followed for each kind of asset.

This includes all maintenance activities related to

  • Preventive
  • Predictive
  • Corrective
  • New installations
Responsibilities include
  • Managing all maintenance requirements with an emphasis on safety, quality, cost, company policy
  • Accountable for executing business plans from department goals/objectives to meet key performance indicators (KPI) and to achieve safety, quality, value and cost results
  • Defining the needed resources (people, spare parts, contractors, systems) and planning
  • Supervision of processes, people and equipment, in order to carry out the defined maintenance tasks and achieving the better productivity rates in each section (OEEs, yields, production quantity), with the minimum cost and in compliance with the applicable legal and EH&S requirements, everything in a multi-shift, 24/7 operation


Other Key Elements of the Role

  • Defines the maintenance policy and criteria to be followed for all the different assets of the plant, with the approval of the Plan manager including:
    • Type of maintenance tasks that are adequate for the goals to achieve: Preventive, predictive, corrective, new installations and autonomous maintenance
    • Tasks to be carried out for each type of maintenance, with the support of the production managers
    • Planning of the maintenance tasks: Needed resources and frequency
    • Define acceptance criteria for maintenance tasks and continuous review of their adequacy
    • Follow up of the compliance and the results
    • Define and implement corrective actions
 
  • Plans and schedules the staffing, supplies and equipment to meet required key performance indicators (KPI) as OEEs, yields, availability of the machinery, cost, lifetime of the equipment and production volume:
    • c. Be able to develop a continuous improvement culture
    • b. Ensures compliance with all internal and external procedures and regulations, including HACCP, GMPs and applicable FDA regulations
    • a. Troubleshoots, identifies and addresses work processes and equipment root causes
 
  • Builds alignment between operational principles and employee performance
    • a. Plans, identifies and implements leadership training, employee development, and performance management
    • b. Resolve labor concerns with the Plant Manager/Maintenance Manager
    • c. Identifies and addresses employment and HR issues
 
  • Manages resources, controls resource costs in line with operating budget
    • Responsible for the overall maintenance operating budget
    • Define the spare parts policy to be followed
    • Operates and adheres to budget standards regarding staffing, overtime costs and materials usage
    • Tracks assigned area actuals to budget; Explains variances to plan
    • Identifies and executes corrective actions in case of deviations

 

  • Identifies and implements improvement opportunities and resolves problems
    • Analyzes processes, equipment and performance trends across designated shift(s); establish standards and system to monitor results
    • Determines actions required to make root cause improvements; Ensures implementation of said actions

Education

  • College degree preferred – B.S. industrial/mechanical/electrical engineering
  • Specific training in technical issues and in maintenance management systems (planning, software)

Experience

  • 5-10 years’ experience as a Maintenance Supervisor In the food industry with a minimum of 4 years supervisory experience preferred
  • Strong technical background with experience in processing IQF & frozen food products. Leadership in process control and strong mechanical knowledge of processing, packaging and warehousing equipment
  • Strong knowledge of FDA/USDA regulations, particularly frozen regulations

Critical Success Factors

  • Significant knowledge of maintenance IT systems - CMMS as SAP module or similar (Maximo, ...)
  • Technical skills to perform in area of specialty (mechanical, electrical, control) and maintenance management
  • Understands and able to perform and troubleshoot all activity and equipment in area of responsibilities
  • Understands Lean Manufacturing principles and practices
  • Prior experience managing the maintenance budget
  • Able to rapidly adjust to changing priorities as necessary
  • Must be able to withstand working in an overall temperature range of -40F to +100F
