EH&S Manager
The EH&S Manager supports the Memphis campus through the inspection and evaluation of environment, equipment and processes in working areas to ensure compliance with government safety regulations and industry standards to protect employees, customers and the environment. Investigates accidents to identify causes and find ways to prevent future ones from happening.
Essential Functions:
- Assists, plans and implements safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations including Occupational Safety and Health Administration and Worker’s Compensation
- Advises and trains supervision and management on safety compliance and preventative actions
- Plans and implements training for employees in work site safety practice
- Maintains safety files and records
- Performs safety inspections and surveys, prepares written reports of findings and recommendations for corrective or preventative measures where indicated and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented
- Conducts post-accident investigations (leads, coordinates RCA (Root Cause Analysis) and prepares report identifying possible accident causes and hazards for use by company personnel and management
- Review and maintain OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM)
- Maintain Worker’s Compensation and coordinates strategic planning aimed at reducing worker’s compensation-related injuries
- Prepares staff by developing and disseminating preventive information; conducting training; providing consultations
- Identifies and anticipates safety and health concerns and hazards by surveying environmental, operational, and occupational conditions; rendering opinions on new equipment and procedures; investigating violations; recommending preventive programs
- Guides and promotes safe work performance by developing safety systems, policies, and procedures (i.e., JSA, PSM, S.O.P, Lock out Tag out, Hot Work Permit, Confined Space Entry, etc.); developing safety campaigns, communications, and recognitions; training managers and employees
- Complies with federal, state, and local safety regulations by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; interpreting standards; enforcing adherence to regulations; advising management on needed actions
- Promotes a safe environment by coordinating and cooperating with local, state, and regional safety groups and agencies
- Maintain comprehensive industrial health and safety records to demonstrate improvement in safety performance
- Lead, coordinate, and participate in safety meetings and as well as lead Safety Committee Meetings with employees at all levels
- Support Plant Safety initiatives by coordination and conducting monthly Safe Behavior Observation programs (SBO) and by participating in team calibrations
- Support other plant initiatives including but not limited to Food Safety Programs, Security guidelines, Standard Operating Procedures, Forklift Certification, GMP’s, HACCP, PPE training and compliance
Education:
- BS in Safety, Environmental Health, or related discipline preferred
Prior Work Experience:
- Manufacturing background with knowledge of safety regulations
- Minimum of 3 years safety experience in a manufacturing environment
- Knowledge of OSHA, PSM, and EPA regulatory requirements
- Knowledge of ISO or ANSI Environmental Health and Safety management systems
- Knowledge of government practices and policies

Skills and Abilities:
Physical and/or mental requirements:
- Perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, bending, reaching, leaning, and stooping
- Read and understand complex regulatory requirements
- Climb to and work at heights exceeding 100 ft
- Work in extreme temperatures and weather conditions
- Eyesight either natural or corrected sufficient to work safely in daylight, in dimly lit, or night conditions
- Hearing either natural or corrected must be sufficient to work safely
- Good communication skills, both oral and written; having interpersonal skills
- Utilize critical thinking skills, quickly observe a situation and make the appropriate response
- Must be proactive and able to work in fast paced environment
Equipment Used:
- Computer and peripherals, standard /customized software applications, and office equipment
- Proficient using Work, Outlook, Excel or other spreadsheet software
Working Conditions:
- Able to work in dusty work environment on a daily basis
- Able to work overtime, including weekends, nights, holidays as needed
- High exposure to noise and seasonal exposure to heat/cold
