Maintenance Technician:  Under direct supervision of the Maintenance Superintendent, the Maintenance Technician will perform routine preventative maintenance and basic repairs on machinery and mechanical equipment used in the instantization and packaging of rice products.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES 
  1. Setup, install, adjust, and maintain production equipment including conveyors, automation, pneumatics, hydraulics, pumps, encoders, variable frequency drives, etc.
  2. Equipment Maintenance - Perform routine, predictive, and preventative maintenance on equipment and determine when and what kind of maintenance is needed. Inspect regularly and as needed to ensure proper operation.
  3. Complex Problem Solving - Identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options. Implement effective solutions.
  4. Operation Monitoring - Watch gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly with maximum efficiency and effectiveness.
  5. Operation and Control - Control operation of equipment or systems
  6. High and low voltage electrical troubleshooting
  7. PLC troubleshooting
  8. Welding, fabrication, etc.
  9. Participate in plant safety, health, and environmental programs
  10. Completes training by supervisor.
  11. Complies with all safety and company policies and procedures.
  12. Performs other related duties as assigned..
Knowledge
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Preferred 1-2 years of related manufacturing mechanical experience including millwright work and welding/cutting/fabrication
  • Forklift certification issued by Riviana Foods
  • Must be at least 18 years old with a valid driver’s license

Skills & Abilities

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The physical demands are:

  • Climbing ladders, stairs, and ramps using feet and legs and/or hands and arms
  • Balancing. Maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling and walking, standing or crouching on narrow surfaces.
  • Frequently is required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Frequently is required to push and pull objects by using upper extremities
  • Required to lift objects from a lower to higher position or move objects horizontally from position-to-position
  • Required to sit and operate motor forklifts
  • Required to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Specific vision ability required includes close vision, distant vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Working Conditions 
  • Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. This includes a variety of temperatures: activities occur inside and outside. Must be willing to tolerate working in hot and cold temperatures for extended periods of time.
  • Subject to noise. There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above ambient noise level.
  • Subject to hazards. This includes a variety of physical conditions: close proximity to moving mechanical parts and moving forklifts.
  • Subject to atmospheric conditions that may affect the respiratory system or the skin such as dust and odors, or poor ventilation
  • Subject to function in narrow aisles or passage ways.
