JOB SUMMARY- The Pest Control Applicator performs duties essential to the operation and maintaining of the facility’s pest control program. The Pest Control Applicator performs these essential duties with minimal supervision. The purpose of the position is to monitor for pest activity, treat areas for pest activity, remove pest, if found, and make recommendations to Plant Management concerning pest management and the pest management program.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Support and comply with all quality management systems, continuous improvement programs, food safety programs and employee safety programs.
  • Application of restricted-use fumigants and pesticides.
  • Maintains usage log, material safety data sheets (MSDS), and other relevant documentation for applied fumigants and pesticides.
  • Monitors facility for pest control issues.
  • Recommendations to Plant Management for pest control issues and the pest control program.
  • Maintains the usability and calibration of monitoring meters and other essential equipment.
  • Maintains the availability and usability of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Direct and supervises personnel when assisting in pest control activities.
  • Notifies facility personnel of pesticide applications.
  • Monitors pesticide usage for facility personnel safety.
  • Be assertive, self-motivated and dependable
  • Must be able to work overtime and on weekends as required.
  • Assisting with the complete fumigation process, including but not limited to sealing, tarping, introduction of fumigant, conducting readings, and aerating/de-gassing
  • Use hand-held gas monitoring equipment to conduct readings
  • Read, understand, and follows labels and SDS forms for hazardous chemicals used during services provided
  •  Inspect, maintain, and utilize Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) properly


JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Knowledge

  1. Education

High School Diploma or equivalent required.

  1. Prior Work Experience

Certified Applicator or Technician preferred.

  1. Certificates and / or licenses
  • Qualify for TWIC Card
  • State of Texas issued Driver’s License

Skills and Abilities

  1. Physical and / or mental requirements
  • Must be able to physically perform the essential duties of the position which include sitting, standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, and pulling, talk and hear throughout the work period
  • Reading, writing, and comprehension of the English language.
  • Use and calibration of various monitoring meter units.
  • Good vision and sense of smell.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Good mathematical skills.
  • Ability to wear a Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and other respiratory protective equipment
  • Must pass pulmonary and fit testing.
  • Problem solving and reasoning skills.
  • Ability to enter confined spaces.
  • Ability to work in high, elevated, and/or lifted spaces.
  • Computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel preferred.
  • Must be able to access and be comfortable with working in a variety of conditions to include confined spaces damp and/or dusty locations, freezing conditions and hot conditions.

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – hearing protection, vision protection, gloves, aprons, raingear, coveralls, SCBA, and other respiratory protective equipment.
  • Monitoring meter units.
  • Various types of fogging units.
  • Small and large spray units.
  • Rodent traps and baiting units.
  • Forklift.
  • Ladders and other lift units.
  • Plastic sheets, tape, glue, razor blades/knives, and other tarp material.
  • Basic tools.
  • Pest Control Department company vehicle.
  • Fans and other types of circulation equipment.
  1. Working Conditions: (environment - frequency and intensity of exposure to elements in daily work environment - heat, cold, noise)
  • Exposure to pesticide and chemical hazards and/or poisoning.
  • Exposure to hazardous and toxic environments.
  • Exposure to reactive pesticides, fumigants, and other chemicals.
  • Exposure to enclosed or confined space hazards.
  • Exposure to fire hazards.
  • Exposure to injury and/or infection from live/dead animals.
  • Exposure to loud noises.
  • Exposure to elements.
