Processing Supervisor

This role is accountable for planning and scheduling activities for labor, supplies, production and equipment to meet required key performance indicators (KPIs) and to achieve safety, quality, value and cost (SQVC) for their assigned shift.

The supervisor is focused mainly on the daily operation of the department to assure that it operates in the most efficient manner with the highest standards of safety, sanitation and quality.

Role Accountability

Process: Coordinates resources, oversees and monitors execution of work area objectives

  1. Daily assignment and movement of personnel on production lines to effectively use and/or remove labor as production requirements dictate
  2. Troubleshoots process equipment with team; identifies and addresses issues
  3. Ensures compliance with all internal and external procedures and regulations
  4. Executes capital and facility improvements

People: Educates and trains employees in SQVC principles and application

  1. Plans and schedules employees to meet performance requirements
  2. Communicate daily with scheduling supervisor concerning status of assigned processing lines and upcoming requirements
  3. Identifies and implements role focused training, employee development, and performance management
  4. Participates in coordinating and directing standard operating line adjustments and troubleshooting with line operators (i.e. temp changes, retention time changes, changeovers, etc.)
  5. Identifies and addresses employment and HR issues; maintains a sound working relationship with the bargaining unit

Financial: Coordinates resources, controls resource costs in line with operating budget

  1. Assign daily proper cost center placement of labor in time and attendance system
  2. Provides input to operating budget
  3. Operates and adheres to budget standards regarding staffing, OT costs & materials usage
  4. Tracks assigned area actual to budget and able to explain variances to plan
  5. Recommends corrective action

Strategic: Identifies and recommends continuous improvement actions and opportunities

  1. Monitors work results against department goals
  2. Analyzes processes, equipment and performance trends across shifts
  3. Determines actions required to make improvements and ensures implementation

Education/ Experience:

  • High school diploma combined with equivalent related experience
  • College degree preferred and/or continuing education in industrial, mechanical or process engineering, food science and or management desired
  • 2 years’ supervisory experience required
  • Prior exposure and experience with quality procedures

Knowledge/Skills/Ability:

  • Technical skills to perform in area of specialty
  • Understands and able to perform all activity and troubleshot all equipment under supervision
  • Understands Lean Manufacturing Principles and Practices
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Perform effective problem solving and team building
  • Read, write and comprehend written and spoken English
  • Effectively prepare and interpret written communications and reports
  • Apply basic math principles including ratios and basic statistics
  • Knowledge and use of all company software applications and automated systems
  • Care and use of required onsite facility personal protection equipment
  • Able to respond to emergency call outs
