Description

This role requires the exceptional skills of a seasoned mechanic in addition to have a strong blend of welding and sheet metal fabrication.

The Mechanic is responsible for applying mechanical skills towards troubleshooting, diagnosing and repairing manufacturing equipment, replacing worn parts and changeovers. Perform preventive maintenance and repairs as assigned to meet production and operational requirements.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
 

Welding & Sheet Metal Fabrication Skills:
  • Welding experience with mig & tig welding, grinding and use a cutting torch
  • Be able to weld in the plant on flat, vertical, and overhead positions

  • We are needing someone who can create parts with and without blueprints or drawings

  • Cut, assemble, weld, and install equipment for the production. Operate a variety of hand and power tools to accomplish tasks

  • Interpret blueprints, drawings, and measurements to plan layouts

  • 2-3 years of experiences

Mechanical Skills
  • Communicate problems or issues to Sr. Mechanic and Maintenance Manager to be able to suggest improvements in overall operations
  • Perform tests/calibrations, repair/replace components, and troubleshoot packaging equipment for operational problems
  • Read schematics referring to manufacturer specifications to disassemble and reassemble complex equipment and machinery
  • Perform maintenance, troubleshoot and repair on the following equipment on a daily basis
    • Gas Burner and Gas Controls
    • Boilers and Boiler Controls
    • Check weighs, metal detectors, solenoid valves
    • Carton machines, Hot Glue System Filling machines, Automatic Baggers, Level detection systems
    • Air compressors, dust collecting systems and numerous types of material handling equipment
    • Clean, lubricate and adjust parts on machinery and equipment in order to achieve optimal operating efficiency
  • Prepare new and/or modified equipment operating and maintenance procedures
  • Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations
  • Maintain continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions; irregularities and continuing needs
  • Support Riviana Good Manufacturing Practices to promote safe, sanitary and hygienically sound workplace
  • Adheres to HACCP, SQF, OSHA, and company policies and procedures
  • Must be able to drive plant equipment, such as forklifts, jig lifts and trucks
  • Coordinates work efforts with other plant personnel, including other departments and contractors
  • Support other areas across facility when necessary
  • Be assertive and self-motivated
  • Assist in ordering parts needed to complete needed repairs of equipment
  • Maintains accurate record keeping of all information required in completing work orders
  • Must be able to work overtime and on weekends as required

Education

  • High School Diploma / equivalent, technical training certification preferred. Associate of Applied Science in electronics or college level credits in electronics preferred

Prior Work Experience

  • 2 plus years welding & sheet metal fabrication, 5+ yrs. experience in mechanical hands-on skills in the operation, maintenance, and repair of industrial equipment; experience
  • Working knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in the inspection, testing, calibration, maintenance, and repair process instrumentation and control equipment
  • Strong mechanical experience working with packaging equipment; experienced working on conveying systems, belts, assembly line equipment
  • Welding experience preferred

  • Conversational English knowledge preferred
  • High exposure to noise and seasonal exposure to heat and cold
  • Must be able to determine root causes of operating errors as well as determine best remedy to repair equipment
  • Be able to work in dusty work environment on a daily basis
  • Able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs moving whole body, such as climbing (in excess of 100 ft.), lifting, balancing, bending, reaching, leaning, stooping and handling of materials
  • Able to communicate loudly and clearly enough to be heard over normal plant background noise
  • Must demonstrate proper use and care of all facility required personal protective equipment
  • Ability to utilize critical thinking, active listening, oral comprehension, judgment, and decision-making skills; as well as deductive and inductive reasoning skills
  • Working knowledge of speed, motion, time; and methods involved in production; able to interpret engineering drawings and schematic diagrams
  • Knowledge of OSHA Lock Out/Tag Out and Confined Space procedures
  • Physically present on time, regular attendance; ability to work overtime, including weekends, nights, holidays, and on a needed basis
  • Respond to emergency callouts; on-call when scheduled

Certificates and Licenses

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Possess a TWIC card or must qualify for TWIC Card
  • Forklift certification or ability to obtain it
