R&D Intern - Summer '25 (Memphis, TN)

Overview

The R&D Intern is responsible for various activities related to the R&D Department, to include the following:

Conducting prototype functions/recipes and sample development; conducting physical/chemical analysis; running ingredient and materials analysis.  This role reports to an R&D Technologoist.

Primary Responsibilities:

Core Functions:
  • Possess technical abilities to work in the laboratory to create prototypes, handle formulations
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret test data
  • Prepare and deliver technical reports of trials and tests performed
  • Assure consistent process and execution on laboratory and pilot plant activities
  • Plan and execute a specific, assigned project, presenting findings to the team at the end of the internship
R&D Support:
  • Assist on the prototype elaboration of prototypes, dummies and samples for Marketing, Sales, Quality, Shelf life and Consumer testing
  • Conduct and plan physical-chemical analysis of products
  • Operate laboratory and pilot equipment. Scales, Sealers, Pilot retort, Ovens, Sifters, etc.
  • Assist R&D Food Technologist on the execution of In-House Sensory Evaluation sessions for innovation products and competitor’s check
Thermal Processes:
  • Under the supervision of R&D Food Technologist, assist on setting samples for process at the Pilot retort
Information Management
  • Capable of maintaining detailed records of prototypes, analysis, evaluations, and trials
Safety
  • Ensuring that at all times safe working practices are used
Education
  • Currently pursuing a BS/MS in Chemical, Food Science, or related fields
Success Attributes
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Specialized tools like statistical software
Experieince
  • Previous experience in a lab setting or with hands-on projects is highly preferred
