Major Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Respond to breakdown calls throughout the plant for mechanical problems.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and routine lubrication on all equipment per checklists and / or manufactures' procedures.
  • Troubleshoot, adjust and repair production equipment, flour-conveying systems, work-in-process equipment and warehouse equipment.
  • Disassemble and reassemble machinery and equipment to repair or replace broken or malfunctioning components Test performance of equipment upon completion.
  • Troubleshoot and perform general repairs on plant systems to include chilled water equipment, HVAC equipment, vacuum systems and boiler equipment.
  • Document work accomplished utilizing shift turnover forms, checklists, and logbooks.
  • Efficiently utilize time, tools and resources to maximize working time on the equipment.
  • Follow quality control standards, safety regulations, standard operating procedures, good manufacturing practices and good sanitation practices.
  • Detect faulty operations and defective materials and refer questionable situations to Coordinators.
  • Maintain the work and shop areas, tools and equipment in a clean and proper manner.
  • Utilize all types of in-house welding equipment safely and complete hot work permit requirements.
  • Utilize large and small machining equipment, drills, grinders, band saws, etc., safely and correctly.
  • Work with all Managers, Coordinators, and operators to repair maintenance concerns in a timely manner.
  • Train other mechanics and employees.
  • Perform all other duties assigned by a Coordinator or a Manager.


Technical Requirements:

  • Ability to troubleshoot, repair and adjust industrial food production machinery and equipment.
  • Ability to test the operation of machinery or equipment to diagnose malfunctions, or other testing devices.
  • Ability to perform Root Cause Analysis
  • Ability to exercise independent initiative
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and other company employees
  • Ability to read schematics and blue prints.
  • Ability to use a cutting torch safely.
  • Ability to weld with a stick and wire feed welder.
  • Ability to complete projects as assigned by the Plant Engineer and Maintenance Manager.
  • Ability to be licensed to operate all types of forklifts and material handling equipment.
  • Statistical processing and analysis.
  • Essential problem solving methods
  • Working knowledge of gearbox, motors, pneumatics, hydraulics, etc.
  • Working knowledge of electrical components and circuits.
  • Understanding of logic circuits, microprocessors and programmable logic controllers
  • Understanding of boilers, chilled water systems and HVAC equipment.

 

Skills and Abilities:

  • Physical and / or mental requirements)
  • Perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs moving whole body, such as climbing(excess of 100 ft), lifting, balancing, bending, reaching, leaning, stooping, and handling of materials
  • Must be able to communicate loudly and clearly enough to be heard over normal plant background noise
  • Ability to read write, listen to, comprehend, and communicate in English
  • Eyesight either natural or corrected must be sufficient to work safely in daylight or dimly lit conditions
  • Must demonstrate a proper use and care of all facility required PPE
  • Must have good mathematical skills
  • Must be able to determine root causes of operating errors as well as determine best remedy to repair equipment
  • Ability to utilize critical thinking, active listening, oral comprehension, judgment, and decision-making skills; as well as deductive and inductive reasoning skills
  • Working knowledge of speed, motion, time; and methods involved in production; able to interpret engineering drawings and schematic diagrams
  • Knowledge of OSHA Lock Out/Tag Out and Confined Space procedures
  • Must be able to walk, stand, climb and bend over for any given length of time.
  • Must be able to understand instructions.
  • Possess basic principles of industrial maintenance
  • Must possess high degree of mechanical aptitude, logic and reasoning.
  • Must be able to determine root causes of operating errors as well as determine best remedy to repair equipment.

Working Conditions:

 

  • Be able to work in dusty work environment on a daily basis
  • Physically present on time, regular attendance; ability to work overtime, including weekends, nights, holidays, and on a needed basis
  • Respond to emergency callouts; on-call when scheduled
  • High exposure to noise and seasonal exposure to heat and cold
